Flying Horses!

We went to a horse show for a while today. An equestrian event: the Washington International Horse Show is going on now. We sat and watched the junior jumpers leap and dash: a field of 13, I think it was, started, and a final run-off was held between all who made a clean run--no bars knocked down--on the first course. It was a great opportunity for camera-play, as well. Timing is everything, and my worst thing. Focus challenge, action challenge... You can see the best of the results...... Pup-date: Chips save the day... and the dog!

The German Shepherd with the gangly legs and big smile was reunited with his people. He was indeed microchipped, and his folks came for him at once. To collect him, they will have paid for tags and license, and the Animal Control's intake fee. It's an expensive but happy ending, this time. His name is Angelo. YAY! Sign in to see full entry.

Dog gone!

On her way home from her job at the Humane Society, my daughter spotted a stray dog. Young German shepherd, collar but no tags, neutered... but no tags. He looks to have been stray a couple of days, only, and knows "Sit!" He didn't want to be touched, but when she opened the back of her SUV, he hopped right in and made himself at home. She decided to pick him up after he almost got hit by a car right in front of her. She brought him to the house where she called Animal Control, and put him in... Sign in to see full entry.

PatB mentioned an appaloosa stallion...

I have owned for 25 years an a appy mare. Her name is Sonja, after the fiery fantasy heroine, a female Conan sort. She grew up in my back yard, from a leggy young thing to a statuesque creature with a mind of her own. Some days, a fence would not hold her. (Did you know, a horse on the loose in Thurston County is a traffic violation?) I was never a practiced horse-person, and an appy was not the kind of horse I should have had. But there was this woman who was persuasive, and sold me my mare's... Sign in to see full entry.

Approaching a landmark

I added up the numbers today, and find I have had some 19,287 clicks on my blogs. It has taken a few years, so I consider that 20,000-read mark as meaningful. I'm not sure as to how, that it is an indicator of how many or how few compelling posts I've managed over the years since the start of my Blogiting. I wonder if there's a count of actual items I've read. Certainly not as many as some here, still less the count of comments and calling cards left: sometimes there is just nothing I have to... Now we know...

...that the protectee of the Secret Service fellas around the corner is Eric Holder, US Attorney General. The helicopter we hear now and then surveys the neighborhood before he comes home. The other night, the copter pinpointed Marika in a spotlight as she was suspiciously dog-walking. There are some lovely houses around this area, some quite large and elegant, and some smaller. Most all have small yards, except for older ones, grand or less so, that tend to have larger yards. I am sure all the... Sign in to see full entry.

what a nice surprise!

When my daughter bought something at Best Buy the other night, she used my number to get a few bonus points on my account, the checkout guy questioned the name. She said, no, it wasn't her name, it's her mom's, CL Redding. He said, "She's the writer? I've heard of her." How cool is that!? Sign in to see full entry.

Making it up

TAPS posted about her discoveries of the use of makeup in the 1950s, and it started me on this little amble through the slightly less distant past... I was never much into makeup--special occasions, and used with a light hand: makeup should be noticed only as an effect, not as a thing in itself, was my theory. It was some years later, when I had my theater support/costuming shop, that I began to sell theatrical makeup, and learn how to use it. Still, all about effect. Of course, theatrical... Beautiful day among the grandkids

There have been seriously troubled times of late, with a more-than-averagely rebellious 14-yr old... Things reached crisis point yesterday afternoon, and both kid and parents were once again running through routines of reactions that have never worked before, and are not likely to work now. It all runs it's ruinous course in a house where there is precious little privacy, and everyone in the house can hear pretty much every scold, threat, defiance, reasoning, etc that comes out at these times....
