Waking early on purpose

I woke up during the night, thinking each time, I should get up and look... Finally, I did... Out on the back porch, blocking the neighbors' over-bright porch lights, I sat and looked. According to the news, Earth was passing through the remnant of the tail of Halley's Comet, that the viewing of meteors would be best in the early morning hours. Usually, I am unsure where in the sky to keep watch, but the name of this shower made it easy: the Orionids. Orion strides over the sky after midnight,... Sign in to see full entry.

Cover Art

Today I have been trading e-mails with the publisher for HEAT. The ideas he has sent me already are better than some of the indie book covers I have been seeing lately. (TOM UGLY's cover is exceptionally good, and now I want one like that!) I have just sent more fine-tuning ideas for the graphic, and several samples of fonts for the title and author name that seem to me to fit better with the themes of the story. It's a thought, too, to go with something abstract to convey the HEAT that the... Sign in to see full entry.

It was cold and dark...

Well, cool and dawn was barely showing... I woke up hungry. Really hungry! Am I channeling the cat? No, I was actually really hungry. Larder is a bit sparse, the main ingredient is creativity. Chicken broth... chopped onions, the last of a bag of fresh shitake mushrooms... ah, that half-can of corn! And the remnant of coconut milk still clinging to the can... half a head of Napa cabbage... Half a lime needed using up, and a teaspoon of dried basil-- Soup! Best soup ever-- It didn't last the... Sign in to see full entry.

The Missing Link

The fella in charge at Eat Your Serial say that redirect to the warning page is a glitch. The Cloudflare people actually are a security service EYS uses. He suggested I try another server, which I did, as I also use Internet Explorer, and that worked fine. I have a similar problem when I try to ticket on SW Airlines. Chrome won't support it. IE does. Sun's just up on another warm day...

Could be the last of the year. The mountain is a-glow, and what clouds there are have gone from pink to gold. I brought in the tenderest plants again yesterday evening, as nights are dropping into the frost range. The maple tree off the deck had begun to change to its fine yellow gown, and fall colors are everywhere! I am halfway through the final revision of HEAT and have promised to send it back, ready to go to publication, later today. The overall site is MEGALOMANIAC, an online magazine that... We took a walk over high places...

Charlie, Davy and I had a pleasant stroll around the upper reaches of Palmer Park. The day is clear and warm, and though we couldn't let Davy off-leash there, he didn't seem to mind much. Well, he hardly ever minds very well, but that's another thing. The autumn colors were rich! https://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/ Sign in to see full entry.

Snow gleaming on the heights...

But down here on the flat, the day will be bright and warm, and doors will open to the balm! Charlie just had a first interview with a charter school that is considering hiring him as a substitute teacher. The good news is that they like him well enough to begin the background check process, the less good is that the process is likely to take a month. Also, the work would likely be very intermittent. But the kids will love him! So, for now... he stays with the phones. My story, HEAT, is due to... Sign in to see full entry.

The heat is on...

I turned it on, just for a while, to take the chill off this rainy day. So--for purposes of business and promoting the things I'm writing, I have re-opened my Facebook account. I have 'friended' nearly 80 people, most connected by my family and kids, our mutual acquaintances. 'Following' someone means getting their flow of information, news, opinions, images, recipes, whatever... flowing straight into my page. A few I have already 'unfollowed' because I am not interested in filling my space, let... Sign in to see full entry.

The moon in shadow

I woke up several times during the early hours of the morning to take a look at the moon as it went into eclipse and out again. The first time, the earth's shadow had begun to move over the moon, but not very much, and the sky was misty so the moon was not clear. I went back to bed. A while later, I was on the deck again, gazing at the moon which was big and bright and even a little shiny. There were other people on the deck... wait... Then I woke up again. I was really awake later, when it had... Sign in to see full entry.
