I looked in the mirror this morning, and knew it was Halloween...

If I leave my hair the way I found it, it will definitely scare the kiddies who might come to the door! I know not everyone who visits here, visits my other 4 blogs, so in case you missed it: http://todaysvisions.com/the-haunted-venues/?utm_content=buffer7fe1c&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer Charlie was provided with the bare bones (so to speak) of the script, and added his voice and a few ad libbed special effects. HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Sign in to see full entry.

A day of accomplishment

For several days I have been out of one of my meds, the one for the diabetes. Getting it refilled--well, I realized I needed to deal with it more than a week ago, but here I am in Colorado, having been prescribed this stuff by a doctor here during the 90 day guest membership, this health provider having a reciprical arrangement with mine back in Washington. The 90 days were up in early September, so I wasn't sure I'd be able to go through these folks again. Would I have to contact the Washington... Sign in to see full entry.

a lowering sky

That's what it's been today: no mountains, just a heavy layer in greys light and dark hovering over the world. Temperatures today are around 30F cooler than yesterday, and it looks... ominous! I smell snow on the air. Well, it is only days away from halloween. I suppose I should invest in some treats or rig up some tricks. The day has gone into reading another indie book for review--at least, at last I found one I can give higher than average marks--and calling around in search of a vet clinic I... A little overnight breeze...

and the beautiful golden tree by my deck is starkers! Every seasonal change has its benefits: Now I can see the mountain unobstructed by the abundance of leaves on that tree. I can feel the building energy towards family holidays, and the coming snows. I can't help it, I like snow... I like it falling magically even at the end of the winter when I am tired of it on the ground. This morning, the green lawn across the street is all gone to golden brown, under the blanket of the leaves that... Sign in to see full entry.

Well, here it is...

http://maglomaniac.com/heat-episode-1/ and here's hoping the link works! In other news... A couple of years ago, we started welcoming a lovely though a little weathered, long-haired black kitty to the house in Olympia. The established cats had no use for him, but I couldn't resist how he adored being petted! He came and went as he was inclined... I called him Mojo. This week, Charlie's dad had to take Mojo to the vet. It was discovered that Mojo is chipped. He has returned to the home he left 3... Sign in to see full entry.

I sigh...

In the past couple of weeks I have signed on to both Facebook and Twitter. It's embarrassing, but my writing jobs are requiring it, the use of social media to promote the work. They both present a torrent of information, and though you can be somewhat selective what comes down the chute, there is always more and more, and a lot that you really can't care about, or give brain-space. The thing is, there are some also very interesting things that happen, that come before your eyes and... Sign in to see full entry.

Waking early on purpose

I woke up during the night, thinking each time, I should get up and look... Finally, I did... Out on the back porch, blocking the neighbors' over-bright porch lights, I sat and looked. According to the news, Earth was passing through the remnant of the tail of Halley's Comet, that the viewing of meteors would be best in the early morning hours. Usually, I am unsure where in the sky to keep watch, but the name of this shower made it easy: the Orionids. Orion strides over the sky after midnight,... Sign in to see full entry.

Cover Art

Today I have been trading e-mails with the publisher for HEAT. The ideas he has sent me already are better than some of the indie book covers I have been seeing lately. (TOM UGLY's cover is exceptionally good, and now I want one like that!) I have just sent more fine-tuning ideas for the graphic, and several samples of fonts for the title and author name that seem to me to fit better with the themes of the story. It's a thought, too, to go with something abstract to convey the HEAT that the... Sign in to see full entry.

It was cold and dark...

Well, cool and dawn was barely showing... I woke up hungry. Really hungry! Am I channeling the cat? No, I was actually really hungry. Larder is a bit sparse, the main ingredient is creativity. Chicken broth... chopped onions, the last of a bag of fresh shitake mushrooms... ah, that half-can of corn! And the remnant of coconut milk still clinging to the can... half a head of Napa cabbage... Half a lime needed using up, and a teaspoon of dried basil-- Soup! Best soup ever-- It didn't last the... Sign in to see full entry.
