Bags are packed... seats confirmed...
Tomorrow it's off to the airport at 11AM and over the course of the day, over the continent to home. I can never make this trip by plane or car without thinking of the time it took only a century ago to make this same journey, and the tribulations, anguish, losses and deprivations of those who made it anyway. And I think of how, maybe a century from now, this same trip will be made in yet a further fraction of the time--by beaming technology or some other preposterous technology we have not yet...

Poetry in the air...
I took a slow stroll today, through the Maryland autumn. It's a gusty day, and everyone in the house is out at work, at school... It's a moody day... Walking in the woods of autumn fire in my own autumn, wistful heart to the colors lifts: All the triumph of a spring advanced victory of a summer lived the flowers gone to fruit and fruit to seed dispersing on the errant winds that blow... All finished now, and so green departs the leaf and reed, the wind whips over flaring brights to muted shades,...

Wedding is over, honeymoon is returned from...
Grandma no longer has to jump up at 6 am to rouse kiddies for school... I had thought to rent a car and drive up into the New England autumn, but a bit of a cranky ligament situation in my right knee has brought me to the decision that the next 5 days before I fly home I had best keep to the local trees, which are, after all, turning lovely fairly quickly now. Next year in New England...! Meantime, here I am in the DC area, off to the west, in Maryland, with 5 days to spend anywhere I like......
