Responding to comments about feral cats...
In a number of cities, feral cats are captured in traps, taken to shelters where they are checked over for health problems, neutered/spayed, and ear-clipped before being released in the area they were trapped. The ear clipping--the trimming of one ear-tip makes sure they won't be trapped again for the same purpose. Some cities, people take it on themselves to make sure their local ferals are regularly fed.
