update on doves
This dedicated mama returned to the nest and has been keeping on eye on me when I peer at her. She flew away once more when I set out some wild bird food, but I can just catch her eye from the sliding door without opening it. On that last occasion, while she was away I managed to get a shot of the two eggs. I've sent an email to the Wildlife Trusts organization in England as they seem likeliest to know if it would be a good or bad idea to turn on the light in the fixture. It's only 40 watts, and... Oh dear...
I guess I won't be able to use my front deck for a while. When I went outside yesterday, one of the local doves leaped from the box-shaped light fixture where a robin built a nest a couple of years ago, and fled to a nearby tree all startled and fluffed. I went out this morning, and realized she has decided to make use of the nest: there are two eggs in it. I do hope I haven't scared her away for good! From now on, the deck is hers.
