Weather kept me from....
...making my long drive to work today. I dropped into school to check on my children. They were all having a good day today. They should be home soon, and we may get snowed in tonight....

More difficult times....
I think we as parents have been hoodwinked with many lies---quality time being better than quantity is one of them. So we endeavor to make the bits of time early in the morning and between activities and homework count, while the schools and the media have our children for countless hours each week. But the more insidious thing these days are the countless messages kids get to discount what their parents are saying.....So that it becomes harder and harder to really be heard by our children......

A difficult time to raise children....
....Everybody seems to accept the old adage about the body: "you are what you eat." But even with the age old knowledge from education that the early influence of a child makes him or her yours for life, we somehow don't think that all the violence and disrespect the children absorb on TV and in games and on computer don't influence them...

More on the superbowl....
Listening to the game on the radio was so very different to watching it on TV. First, the commentators descriptions and banter are marked by their efforts to make up for the lack of a picture. Their efforts to paint pictures with words make the experience interesting, especially when each of 3 different Fox Sports Radio commentators had a markedly different view of what they were seeing. And the banter reminded me of the magnification one sees in theatre, giving it a feel reminescent of the old...

The superbowl....
We don't have regular TV, so we usually miss the games....But my mom gave us a subscriptionn to XM radio. The children and I all listened to the last half of the game riding around town getting tacos and icecream, then finishing off in parked in the driveway....
