Cravings - what's yours?
In times of stress or depression or boredom I always crave food of some sort. The oral satisfaction seems to alleviate my emotional symptoms. I believe it’s a learnt reaction, passed on by my mother whose solution to most problems was to find something delicious to eat. I have two types of cravings...

Change of weather, change of food
I find the weather determines the type of food I eat. Changes in temperature mean changes of menu. Yesterday we had another extremely hot day, it hit 39C, which equates to approximately 100F, and it was also very windy. The wind came from the north, bringing more heat and lots of dust. In hot...

Walking again
At least I've started my morning walks again. I try to leave the house by 6am and go for at least half an hour of power walking. The weather has been great for these early morning walks. Just crisp enough to keep one from melting, but not cold enough for extra clothing. Next time I buy tracksuit...

Second verse, same as the first...
I got on the scales this morning and discovered I have put back on the two kilos I lost not so many weeks ago. Damn! It’s been difficult to stick to healthy eating while my boys have been here. Just the sheer magnitude of food they eat means I have to plan larger meals and lots of snacks. I know I...

Ideas needed for over ripe bananas!
I continually have the problem of over ripe bananas. I buy them when my boys insist they will eat them; only to find the last remaining one or two left in the fruit bowl, no longer fit to eat as is. My boys won't eat banana cake therefore making it is a waste of time. So, apart from banana cake,...

Not a diet.....
but a new way of life. That is how I've decided to view my eating and exercising habits this year. The word "diet" to me conjures up abstinence and hunger, however it doesn't have to be that way. I'm not going to be dieting this year, instead I will be planning healthy meals and including regular...

Let them eat cake....
I raced into my local health food store yesterday after work to find some non-wheat bread. Not a loaf in sight. I usually buy spelt bread and rolls as it tastes good and is light in colour, thereby fooling the boys. When I asked the assistant, she told me that that particular bakery is on holidays...

Children and Choice
I'm in the process of writing my weekly shopping list and deciding on meals for the next ten days that my boys will be here. This is not an easy thing to do as they are not always in agreement with food likes and dislikes. Some people will blame me for encouraging my children to choose the foods...

Ice Cream Christmas pudding recipe - as requested by KlaraRoberts
Soften the required amount of vanilla icecream. I found that four heaped tablespoons made two puddings per person. When softened add in whatever you like and mix together. We added different combinations of the following: sultanas soaked in brandy for a couple of days, mixed peel, glace cherries,...

Christmas Dinner @ Ca88andra’s place
I cooked up a fantastic Christmas lunch, all timed down to the last second. We had roast chicken, roast beef, cold ham, roast potatoes, sweet potatoes and carrots, steamed peas and beans, and sautéed asparagus and mushrooms in oyster sauce, all served with the choice of gravy or a variety of...
