Shortbread on Sunday

For some reason I felt like baking shortbread today. My son helped me and the shortbread is now in the oven No, shortbread doesn’t fit into my diet plan. Yes, it is yummy and just what I need to munch on at the moment. To appease my guilt I made the shortbread from spelt flour instead of wheat... Sign in to see full entry.

More bad than good

Lifestyle has a lot to blame for bad dieting habits. Yesterday was a washout for me and my diet. Totally. I was running late for work again, but managed my usual breakfast. However, I had no time to make my lunch so I had to buy something on campus. I bought some lamb biriani with Chinese broccoli.... Sign in to see full entry.

The good and the bad

Yesterday and today have been a mix of good and bad when it comes to diet and exercise. Breakfast on both days was the same as normal, homemade muesli and yoghurt. I make the yoghurt too with a yoghurt maker; it’s so easy to do. Lunch yesterday was salad and quiche; today I had some leftover lamb... Sign in to see full entry.

Tuesday’s menu

No gym today as I was running late for work and had no time to pack my gym clothes. I figure it doesn’t matter, as a day’s break in between workouts is fine. Breakfast this morning was homemade muesli and yoghurt again. It seems to be my standard breakfast, with black coffee of course. For lunch I... Sign in to see full entry.

Monday Weigh In and Measure Up

I’ve decided to revamp this blog in order to help me keep to my new diet plan and gym work. If I write down my weight, measurements, what I eat daily and how much I exercise I think it will help me achieve my goals. Mondays will be weigh in and measure up days. Today the results were: Weight 72kg... Sign in to see full entry.

Diet and nutrition for sports and recovery

My son and I had a discussion about his diet and nutrition needs now that he is seriously looking at basketball as a career. He knows he has to eat a healthy balanced diet and cut out things like soft drinks and takeaway foods. But what I'm interested in finding out more about is specific diets for... Which foods would you never want to taste?

I'm reasonably open to new tastes and foods from various cultures, however there are a few things that I simply will not taste no matter what. If these things are offered to me I will take on the disposition of an irritable toddler, mouth firmly closed and head shaking from side to side. Some of... Sign in to see full entry.

Food Partners

There are certain foods I always think of in tandem, foods that just seem to go together. For example I never think of pancakes without thinking of maple syrup. I might not always have maple syrup on them, but I always think of the two food items as a duo. Baked potatoes and sour cream, cake and... Sign in to see full entry.

To market, to market

I've decided I must try to find a good fresh fruit and vegetable market close to where I live. I've been buying fruit and vegetables from my local supermarket, but the quality is often sub standard and the prices are definitely not cheap. I know there are some markets where prices can be exorbitant,... Sign in to see full entry.

MSG and sleeplessness

I made the most wonderful Thai red chicken curry last night with steamed rice. The boys had lemon chicken with fried rice. Both recipes were as easy as opening a can, well perhaps slightly more complicated but easy just the same. I found it difficult to sleep last night, so I wonder if the can of...
