I wanted this to go a little further...
It started as a comment in Bhaskar's post about being 'born anew.' I spent about 3 years immersed in the only church I've ever found that came close to my heart. It is The Church of Divine Man, a Christ-based church that recognizes that we are essentially spirit; that bodies, lives, thoughts, beliefs, and all, etc, are things that we have.
