Why Shortcuts Lead to Long Delays
Labels and statistics: excellent tools for handling things in quantities, but when it comes to individuals, as you say, they lessen, demean, and bind. Such things evolved, I suppose, out of the need to talk to each other about 'that, over there' when 'that' was out of sight, or standing next to something else...
