What am I going to do now that I'm grownup?

My health is returning, my daughters' are leaving, so now I can do completely different things. I could get a job at Target. I could get ordained and then become a pastoral counselor. I could go on the road, sell my books, and jewelry. I could sign up for the farmer's market every Saturday. I could... Sign in to see full entry.

My new couch

has someone sleeping on it. I wanted to keep it nice, but I also bought a huge couch that had a chaise, a large ottoman and one section that is eight foot long. Why? So that people who needed it could sleep on it. It is more comfortable than a bed. It is hardwearing and easy to clean. Is it going to... Sign in to see full entry.

How big is your God?

Too often, we think that if such and such doesn't happen, I'll be on the street, or some other dire consequence. But if we really do believe in God, follow his commands, and have a life with him, more than just Sunday morning, then even if the dire thing happens, we will be all right. I opened a... Help! Please Leave me alone

Right now, I cannot drive. I have a collar on my neck that prevents me from turning my neck. It also prevents me from driving. Without the collar, my surgery would fail. With the collar I cannot see to drive. But I'd dearly like to. All the people I know either work or don't drive. I have depend... Sign in to see full entry.

Independent Living

The American ideal is to be able to care for yourself and your immediate family. The Immigrant ideal is to be able to care for yourself and your family back home. The reality for the disabled is that they are dependent on someone to care for them. Even if a quadrapalegic has a great job and makes a... Sign in to see full entry.

I'm tired. Where's the energizer bunny?

I'm sure that humanity has always wanted things to be perfect. I doubt if our expectations have always been so high. With advertizing, glamour television and with a relatively high disposable income, Americans, Europeans, and many Asias have high expectations. We should all be thin, beautiful,... Alternasaints

Somehow she may encounter a man who takes day old bread from the supermarket and delivers it to people who he knows are poor. One of those houses belongs to drugs addicts. They have money for food but not drugs. Through them she finds out that addicts are people with a problem rather than just being... Sign in to see full entry.

Saints are ordinary people

with extraordinary commitment. Some of the saints in the past were the wives of important men. They had time and money. Although they came from the upper classes, since they were women, they were unimportant. Their husbands might have gone on a crusade, but they took care of widows, orphans and the... The Ugly American

In the Ugly American, the government recruited young adults to work in their embassies by telling them how much fun it would be. They made the job glamorous. As a result, they didn't get those who would accept the challenge of learning a new language and culture. They got party animals. The name of... Sign in to see full entry.

The Cost of Being a Christian

Christ did not offer salvation, generally, to people who wanted an easy life. Christ offered salvation to those who were willing to accept the challenge. Which is easier? To step over a bum sleeping on the street. To nudge him and help him move out of harms way. To say no to your girlfriend, and go... Sign in to see full entry.
