Getting saved

When I was a child, and even now our pastor calls for people who don't yet know Christ as their personal savior, to come forward or pray to get saved. This decision somehow transfers the person from darkness to light. Although I believe in making decisions and I believe that some follow God and... Sign in to see full entry.

The Authority of Scripture

Christians have been given a book to live by. But most of us consider it optional whether or not we do what it says. How sad. We could avoid many of life's problems if we would consider what it says and do it. For example, considering divorce. If you truly believed that God did not want you to... Sign in to see full entry.

Virtuous Atheists

Christians are not the only ones who can be kind, loving and unselfish. Sometimes it seems as if Christians are only self righteous and rude. Why else would some Christians like Rush Limbaugh? I believe that since we are made in God´s image, that there is so much to love about every human being.... Sign in to see full entry.

Christian View of Self

This is an area of great confusion. Some think that we should be totally without self, others that we become truly ourselves. When I wrote two columns ago, I did not mean that we get rid of ourselves but that we become unselfish and that we stop being self-centered. The best way to express ourselves... When I feed the poor, I am feeding Christ

There is a mistaken idea that helping the poor is enabling them to be poor. In some cases that may be true, but not entirely. Why is the person poor? Are they poor because they are mentally ill, then they need help. Are they poor because of a family illness which stripped them of all their... Sign in to see full entry.

Religion for Me

So much of American religion, no matter what one, is about me. What will make me feel good, what will make my life better, what will give me power, health or a brand new car--that it the purpose of American religion. After all, we are given the incentive by the Declaration of Independence to pursue... Sign in to see full entry.

Viewing the World with God's Eyes

Today I'm depressed. I see the world with the glass half empty. Reality depends on the viewer. My view is skewed by my feelings. All of us whether depressed, happy or neutral view the world through our feelings, belief system and experience. Only a God's eye view can see the real picture. Like a... Sign in to see full entry.

Why I don't support my argument with scripture.

If I debating a Muslim and he quote the Koran, his argument would not be convincing. Unless he used the Koran to explain what he believed and why, then quoting the Koran would help me understand his religion better. The Koran is not a valid reference to me. The same is true of the Bible, unless you... Sign in to see full entry.

The Game Agnostics Play

Get in your best shot, Christian. Give me an argument for God and or the Bible that I can't shoot down. Missed again. Those translations contradict each other. How can you possible believe in something written over time with unknown authors and no way of authenicating it. So obviously, the Bible is... Sign in to see full entry.

Reason and Error

To those who hate religion, reason seems to be the only way of making sense of the world. The problem with reason is that it is colored by our emotions. So although we make make what we think is a logical argument, it is no more certain than anything else in the world. We cannot be objective since... Sign in to see full entry.
