The missing call
Oh my, I feel awful this morning: I turned on the comfuser to read my e-mail and saw that I had got one from my Mann on the ice-breaker. I felt bad when I read it because he says that he tried to call last night but no one answered the phone. It might have been the last call from him for a whole...

My Mann is leaving today!
My Mann is leaving this afternoon for the Arctic. He's going to be there for about a month, working hard on the research ice breaker Admundsen. I think he told me that NBC or another TV chanel were going to be there to, to make a documentary about it. And my son has started school yesterday. He is...

Maple syrup Beans
Well, I thought to do something different this time, I'm going to answer comments here by starting with naut.'s first: The Québec maple syrup Old fashion Beans (it has to be old fashion!) 4 cups dry beans 1 tea spoon dry mustard 1 tea spoon black pepper (grounded) 1/4 cup brown sugar or maple sugar...

Where is the time going?
Another day trying to get everything ready: the new school for the kid, the many supplies for the Mann, the "stuff" for the "in-town" apartment, and me looking for a job (with money attach this time!). The time just fly away so fast at the moment. We've been back for a month but we had so much to do...

Raccoon's Delights!
We stopped growing corn because the raccoons like them too much. We stopped growing gooseberries because the bears like them too much. We put chilli sauce on the outside stairs to stop the porcupines from eating them (they love the glue use in plywood). We "waterguned" the woodpeckers to stop them...

Trip to Québec
I just came back from a week in Québec city and I haven't even seen anything of the 400th celebration! yes, it was 400 years ago that Samuel de Champlain funded Québec and they had a lot of celebrations going on this year. Even Paul McCartney was there! Unfortunately, this is also where most of my...

Biking to town...
My last entry, and the comments that came with it, gave me the idea for this entry: How to use your bike to go to town! You see, contrary to more civilized European countries (well, they've been there longer than us, so, longer civilisations= more civilized? Sorry for the American Indians, but some...

I want my train back!
Sorry guys, I haven't written for a while. Too tired. I don't know if it is that I am still a bit jet-lag or if it is the shear amount of things that need to be done around here, but I have no energy for anything much at the moment. I spent another day running around to get a temporary transit...

All creatures, big and small
We had a little excitment with the dog recently: we fund a tick! I think it was the first time my son fund one on his dog and he was really nervous about it: what about Lyme disease? and is there any other disease he can get? How are we going to remove that thing? Can we kill it? If we pull it out,...

The family's new member
Back from the "big" city, i.e. Ottawa (it's only about 45 km from here but it's like another country altogether; They HAVE high speed internet there!). We went to pick up the new addition to the family: a chevy blazer. Not my first choice (too much gas per 100 km) but, althought it is a 2004, it is...
