Today my sister and I took the Semilla teachers to a picnic at a school

that began its career as an outdoor school, under open ramadas in the Arizona weather. The owner would pull down tarps and cloths to hold in the heat and to keep out the sun and the kids learned outside. It was a really country kind of place. It still is and in the middle of our town. Lovely. The owner explained how she grew slowly and how her school is still very small. She uses half of the classes' study times outdoors. One half does math inside and the other does it outside.
